The end of the 1999 season, Nistelrooy's first as a professional, saw him as top scorer in the Dutch league with 31 goals. On 23 April 2001, following a long fight with a knee injury, Ruud transferred to Manchester United, for a British record fee of £19 million. He played a crucial role in United's winning of the Premiership League in 2003. He scored his 100th and 101st goals for United against Everton at Goodison Park on 7 February 2004, when United won 4-3.
